Penetrating Oil

Hi all,

As you ponder your Mopar restoration while you digest the calories and juggle football and shopping decisions, here is some information about solvents to help you remove those rusty nuts and bolts from your Mopars when you get around to it. :)

I saw in a recent issue of the Walter P. Chrysler Club's magazine a report about a test done by Machinist's Workshop magazine. They tested the amount of torque needed to break free rusted fasteners. The results:

No penetrating oil = 516 pounds

WD-40 = 238 pounds

PB Blaster = 214 pounds

Liquid Wrench = 127 pounds

Kano Kroil = 106 pounds

Automatic Transmission Fluid & Acetone. a 50/50 homebrew mix = 53 pounds

The article concluded the Liquid Wrench was the best buy of the commercial products because it is much cheaper than Kano Kroil but the homemade brew was the most effective.

Thanks,
Gary H.
