Re: '62 rear drums

No, you have to loosen the axle nut. Like Paul says, remove the nut, turn it over so the flat side of the nut is to the outside and screw it back on till the flat face of the nut is flush with the axle end . That protects the threads and keeps the axle end from getting distorted. You have to leave the nut on , or when it comes loose with a bang, the hub and drum could go flying.

I did not think about you going to Robs . If you have a problem , give me a call I have been through this! 712 542 9062 Say Hi to Rob for me......................MO

Fortunately Rich had the good 'ol Mopar puller in his vast collection of
tools, so I ran it over to Rob this afternoon. I'm hoping that does the
trick...

So... I should tell Rob NOT to loosen the axle nut and don't bang on it?

It looks like someone in the past had given the center shaft of the
puller some pretty nasty whacks with a hammer (Rich said he never
resorted to that)

I bought shoes and wheel cylinders from RockAuto a while back... all I
remember was it was dirt cheap.

Thanks MO... how is that Dodge coming?

I have friends that really like this puller, but it is kinda pricey, and
you
still have threads to strip. The homemade puller I talked about earlier
can
be made with a cuttung torch and a drill press and welder
