Re: Fw: Progress on my 64 Fury

Thanks Gary. OH for sure I will not drive it again without having the kickdown linkage hooked up. there is not a provision on this carb for it, so I will have to fab something. I drove it less than a mile. I just HAD to see how things were working. I checked the fuel filter previously. I don't think it is the tank sock because under acceleration, it pulls good without missing. I do believe it is in the untested carb I put on or possibly timeing chain or valve -spark timeing. At least now that it is running, I can diagnose things one at a time. I do want next to check the crank to rotor play as someone here mentioned . any other input is welcome........................MO

You are making good progress! You best hook up that kickdown linkage right away: running without one is hazardous to the TorqeFlite's health. I'd do that and fill it to correct level of trans fluid and retest. It's less work to swap out to a different shifter than swap the whole trans. :)

Is the fuel filter new and filter in the gas tank new? I.e., no clogs in the fuel supply.

Thanks,
Gary H.

I got the old beast running better, after cleaning and re-gapping the
plugs, and tinkering with the Holly carb. I actually took it out on the
road for a test drive. After refilling the torque converter, I put in 2 1/2 qt. of tranny oil and it still is low on trans fluid. ( I ran out of more) It still does not run quite right. It its hard to tune with open headers and
1000 idle rpm cam. The tranny shifting is erratic I don;t know if it is
because of being low on TF or because I dont have the shift down linkage
hooked up. I know I don't like the B&M ratchet shifter! I have located a 65 T flite cable shift tranny locally and it would have the slip yoke output shaft. . The Holly accelerator pump barely dribbles in some gas , so I will have to experiment with some different acc. pump cams to get a better shot.
