Mo,,,,, if I were to be building this drive train to use in a 62-65 car, I would stick very close to the original 383/335hp engine specs, complete with the un silenced air cleaner and the varied lift cam.. for the tranny it would be a 518, here is some great info on that tranny', and what to do to make it all work correctly
 
 
You will of course have to have an adapter to go from the big block engine to the small block tranny.and as for the rear gear,,,,a 3.23,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, naw,,,make it a 3.55 and get a little more smoke from the tires,,
