Good point, DJ. I'd have to measure, but I think those washers may be 3" or 4" in diameter, so they may be closer to the plate size than they look in the pics. I'd have to get my math genius daughter involved to figure out how the area of the washer compares to the area of the 4" x 4" plate. Too much math for my rusty noggin at this time of night! LOL

The plate spreads out the force being applied to over a greater area, and unless your floor is almost rushed through, a 4"x4" plate will improve the holding power 10 fold, over the washer. And yes tunnel attachment is better, do to the angle of the force on the attachment point.

That's exactly what I was thinking, especially with the center bolts, which would most likely be mounted to the tunnel, and which moves the angle at which the bolts interface with the floor pan. I suppose the biggest difference would be whether I tightened the bolts enough, as any looseness would dramatically reduce the effectiveness of the washer's ability to spread the stress across the sheetmetal. I installed the same hardware as Scott. I'm not sure a bigger plate welded to the sheet metal would make much of a difference. Seems to me that the weak link is the sheet metal tearing, and I don't know that a welded plate has too much of an advantage over those large washers (maybe some, though). But in any case, I feel better knowing there's at least something back there that's better than nothing.
