Re: 413

Got a little more info today, nothing definative though. It has the 2206324 heads which according to my casting reference were found on 1961-67 361/383/413 engines.

He was able to turn the engine over by hand, but bought the engine off a buddy and has never heard it run.  The buddy told him it had been rebuilt.

He does have some sort of owners manual for the engine, and tell me the engine is a 1963.

Not sure yet if it has the 6 or 8 bolt crank flange, he sent me a picture of the back of the engine but the marine bellhousing it still on it....hey....I have a 1979 17' deep V wide beam Crestliner with an inline 6 170hp motor in it...maybe I should throw it in there! It'd fly! lol.

The crank flange bolt holes are going to be then determining factor (as well as the rotation) as it's going to be a little difficult to bolt on my 64 727 flexplate if it's 8 bolt....

He's ASKING $500 for it, not cheap nor expensive but they're pretty rare up here in Canada, might offer $350 as is or if he's firm at $500 go check it out, pull the pan, check the crank, bore, etc.

Might have to make a road trip this weekend and check it out.

Maybe take a battery, some gas and jumper cables and give this a go?

As I posted earlier, if you rotate the engine crank clockwise the distributor should rotate counterclockwise. If it doesn't rotate in that direction then the internals are different than a regular car motor. As far as the casting numbers....If it shows to be a 62 to 64 block then it is probably a 413.
What was the seller asking for the engine, if I may ask...No danger of me trying to scarf it out from under you as the wife would beat me

Hmmm....so is there an easy way to tell the rotation? Maybe by the timing tab? Or an oddball (reverse) starter? When I look up the block casting number most sites show it as a 59-63 passenger car block, but that may not mean anything....

The seller is going to pull off a rocker cover and get the casting number off the head for me tomorrow, and take a few more pix, guess we'll learn more tomorrow!

One thing I do know is that in multiple motor applications, one turns one way and the other one opposite. You need it to have the correct rotation.

Good Day!

I've found a complete 413 locally, block casting 2205697-3, from a boat.  The price is right, and I've been told it was a good running engine, rebuilt not too long ago,  prior to being pulled from the boat (of course I'll check it out well if I decide to go for it). Here it is....

Kijiji: 413 Chrysler engine

I'm considering grabbing it to put in my 1964 Windsor, just wondering other than exhaust manifolds, proper mounts and accessories would there be any real issues bolting this in?

Would my 727 (behind my existing 383) "bolt up"?

Any insight would be appreciated!
