Could be a few things...rockers are stretched, rocker shaft loose, cam wiped, lifter collapsed. The lifters won't be solid without adjustible rockers (at least shouldn't be), something has created enough play for them to pop out...

HA Ruth! yup thats me--hard for me to make up my mind  8-)

Dodger, The lifters were not side by side, so I am hopeing they are
close to the bores they came out of. Since the rockers are non
adjustable stock , I wonder how the pushrods popped off? I suspicion
that the lifters are solid and to loose. I will let you
know.....................MO
