RE: Welcome New Member - 1962 Chrysler Newport

Yo Mopar Dudes....400+ unread messages, man you guys have been busy while I have been out and about...

I learned a few things about the C bodies when I bought a complete 361 engine and trans that had been pulled from a 1964 Chrysler Newport to use in my engineless '64 Polora. I thought it was great because it had everything intact that I needed, such as motor mounts, exhaust manifolds, etc. But no, it was the same yet so different.  I discovered that the engine mounts, exhaust manifolds, trrans kick down linkage, and throttle linkage are not the same as the B body. In fact the carb will only work on the C body because the throttle linkage hook up is so different. The trans does still use the same shifter cables, but the bozo's who pulled the engine cut the cables.

I had the same learning curve with an engineless "A" body '65 Barracuda that I traded an Aspen station wagon for several years ago. It was 4-speed car and it still had the trans. I tried to drop in a '68 318 LA engine with B body exhaust manifolds but it would not fit because of the steering column. I searched out and found the proper exhaust manifold but I thought it looked too restrictive. I looked into installing headers but the only ones I could afford involved cutting out the fender wells and I did want to do that. Besides that, the car had more severe rust issues than I was willing to handle, so I evetually lost interest and sold the car.

Ben Morgan So what if I have cars in my yard
1966 Dodge Coronet 500
1964 Dodge Polara 2-dr HT
1954 Ford F-100 (Grandpa's Truck)
1990 Ford Bronco 5.8L
plus a few other wrecks and lawn ornaments

I've never owned a car with a Big Block before this (it's a 361). I remember spending many hours in it as a kid. It has that fabulous space-ship dashboard and the push-button TorqueFlite.

Last year, I sold my 73 Roadrunner clone, but now I'm picking up this 62 Newport, a 70 Chrysler convertible and an 85 Dodge half ton pickup. My yard is going to be very, very full.
