Re: Oil pickup tube replacement

Actually I probably had more trouble with my dipstick than any other component. The tube was absolutely impossible to remove. The machinist even gave up as it would've cost me a fortune for him to fight with it. I wound up drilling it out very carefully and prodding and prying for days. Then the new ones would not go back in. I broke the first one and had a heck of a time with the second one. It looked rather iffy when I did get it in so I J B Welded it at the base. It ain't going nowhere for sure now!

If your tube is just dirty I would put all my efforts to cleaning it thoroughly rather than replacing it. That said two other poly's I have were a piece of cake to remove the tubes?????

I once read an article on that install and it said to put dry ice on the tube and it would go right in! Ruth

So, my oil pickup tube was filled with maple tree seeds, pine needles,
a 1 1/2"  plastic tube and various other bits.

How does all this shit get into an oil pickup tube?

I think I can just crank on the pickup tube to un screw it?  Is there
any advice for installing the new one and is it hard to get it in the
correct location?  I did this years ago, but can quite remember.  I
guess if the pan is on it really can unscrew all the way.

Thanks!
