This is directed at MO for starters as he ask some time back about what
size fuel pump was needed for a big block,,,, the question was somewhat answered
back then, but there were no numbers to put with it, I did come up with a
formula stolen off the net, it goes like this,,,
estimated HP times expected efficiency equals lbs of fuel used
there are still a lot of variables,,, but here are the numbers they gave to
work with.
a well tuned motor set up for good mileage runs an expected
efficiency rating of .4
and a performance motor set for max all out HP has a rating of
.75
so using a figure somewhere in the middle of say .6 , would look like
this
450 (HP) times .6 (efficiency rating) equals 270 pounds of fuel
270 divided by 6.1(weight of 1 gallon fuel) equals a little over 44 gallons
per hour
like I said there are a lot of variables like temp, octane, power
adders, turbos, blowers and probably a lot more.
Not real sure what a stock pump is capable of, but
think that the race pumps start at around 100 gph, so you do the math,,,,,,
