Re: Car won't start without pouring gas in the carb...

Here's a thought, how about using a Holley 2bbl? I think they have 500cfm Holley's that could be used. If I'm wrong you'll hear about it real soon :-) I do believe you could get an adapter from a 2bl to 4bl carb if money is an issue. Then you could put an Edelbrock carb on it. I got horrible mileage with my 2bl before I rebuilt my engine and changed to 2x4bl's. I actually got worse mileage with the 2bl BUT it's obvious that was not normal. If the car runs good it will be more efficient even if the carb is bigger. If you do the Eddy carb swap I'd use the #1406 which is an economy calibrated, electric choke with 600cfm.

a 361 in a C-body is not going to run like a beast,,even adding a 4 v carb will only add maybe 8-10 horse, and you will still be at the same level as a B-body with a 318 when it comes to comparing hp to pounds,,,,,,, Me thinks that you would be better off to get your carb professionally rebuilt, and put a good sounding dual exhaust on your car, the other option is engine replacement,,,,,

What are my options?  I know I would have to get a new manifold to switch to a 4barrel right?  And how shitty would my gas be with a 4barrel?  It's my daily driver....I want it to run better then ever... And I think a new carb would be nice...

you could have your carb professionally rebuilt, I am going to make a suggestion, but it will probably open up a can of dead worms because of all the different opinions out there, but if it were me I would replace it with a new edelbrock,,,,,,,,,,,,,, I am going with the assumption that your carb is a 4 barrel

Yep... It's got to be the carb... It was doing it before the rebuild.... Do you think buying a new carb would be a good idea?  I know the original is the best option... But what do you do if it's shot?  How would you go about buying a new one?  What would be a good upgrade?

I did that, it sprays out... I'm thinking the carb is shot.... Think that could be the case?

losen the fitting on the carb and see if gas come out when your cranking the car,,,,,,,,, if there was gas present more than likely the parts between the tank and carb are working, usually a crack or hole in line will result in no gas, only air,,,,,,,,

I took the carb off and on about 10 times in the last day.... Every time There is gas in all parts connected... Gas in the fuel filter... Gas comes out of the line attached to the carb when I disconnect it and gas in the carb where the float is when I take it apart....
