Not so, Dodger...

There are undersize bearings and there are oversize bearings. The
undersize bearings are to compensate for wear and re-machining of the
journals, oversize shells are for this purpose being discussed here.

They're not always available for all applications, however.

I would prefer to go with a fresh block myself. There must be scope
for finding one within a hundred miles or so?

No... I'm not volunteering to airfreight one of those I have here to
America!
