Re: 62 imperial

I can't tell you how to clean it up the right way, but I do know if you spray penetration oil on them and loosen them up they will not work right.  There is a leaver in there that pops the buttons back out and it is supposed to have some resistance in it, the oil make it loose and sloppy so they don't pop back out.  If I remember right.  I've only done them on the 1962 Newports, but I think they are all close in the way they work.  Maybe somebody here can better advise you.

I've had a boat load of push button cars and only had trouble on my

just cleaned it all up and put it back together and have not had any
problems, although my park lever is still a bit sloppy,, but works.  I
remember an old mechanic at the shop I used to work at when I was a
younker bitchin about people spraying penetrating oil at the buttons
when they got a bit sticky and totally screwing them up.  Might be ???
I'll bet there's better advice coming,, but that's what got me going.

> Okay friends. I have a buddy who's working on a 62 imperial for a friend. The tranny push buttons don't come back out once you push another button. For instance, it's in neutral, and you push drive, and neutral button doesn't pop out like its supposed to. Anyways, does anyone have a push button assembly or know how to fix this? We have absolutely no experience on how to fix this! I'll relay any info you give! I appreciate it! :-)
