Re: Where to put fusable link?

I believe it will take you a lot more time and effort to cut, splice, disable, add wiring & modifying your system to have things not work than it will to just clean and tighten the correct connections on your car and have everything work as designed.  Dodger is right, keep the correct amp alternator and some "Preventative Maintenance", your car will last another 50 years with out problem.  Additionally every thing in your car will work as Ma MoPar & MR. Exner intended.  I wont go into it in depth, but when I got my 63 Sport Fury it had countless mods (including this one) done to the electrical system in the name of improvements over factory.  1st thing I did after removing all the mods and repairing the harness back to factory was clean and tightened all the connections at the bulkhead connector, senders & dash, and much to everyone's surprise, everything worked and still does to this day.  That said, I am running two mods that I did to my system.  First is a solid state voltage regulator in my charging system and second is a solid state voltage regulator in my dash for the gauges.  Both mods are improvements in technology, unknown at the time our cars were developed and built.  They do not change anything just make it more reliable!     Just my $0.02 worth!

I am upgrading my wiring so I am going with the file called Fuseable Link Update.  Look at the highlighted parts of the drawing.  This will make my Alt gauge not work, something I think is a good thing as too many of our old cars have burned to death or be left dead on the side of the road for a short or loose connection that takes forever to find.

If you decide to leave your stock wiring all org and don't want to upgrade it you can do what they did starting in 1965, (I think).  Look at the pic Fuseable Link Old and see  they highlighted area.  This is where you put it.  A easy and simple addition.  You will protect you car from an overload, but will still have all the weak points in the wiring that can still fail and leave you stranded somewhere.  But it is still a good idea to put one in.

Let me know if I can help any further.
