RE: Front speaker

I agree with all of Herb’s advice except that they do make a 6x9 adaptor with the twin speakers already installed. It’s #1006. The dual voice coil speaker is #3006. Personally I’ve used both and if you like a lot of bass I recommend the dual voice coil. Dan

He needs a 6x9 speaker.  They make a duel cone speaker in 6x9 but not a duel speaker adapter that Bill was referring to in 6x9.  I just made my own from a 1/4 sheet of plastic.  Use your old speaker as a template, and then the two new speakers as templats.  I have tried both ways and really cannot tell a discernable difference between ether option.  Now I do believe the undercover II speakers are worth the extra $$ to upgrade to.  A circumstance to be aware of before you get to much invested in speakers is the radio to speaker clearance.  The replacement speaker has a substantially larger magnet hanging on the back of it, than the factory speaker, thus rendering less clearance.  Using two speakers allows even less wiggle room.  Be sure to get speakers with a dust shield on them or make sure they have some sort of protective thin cloth cover over them.  You would be surprised what all can get in there through the slots of your speaker grill.

Also if anyone is interested there is a gentleman in Breese, IL. 618-526-8492 Jim, that converts your factory AM radio to AM FM for about the price of a new radio and installs two plugs for CD, I-pod, Satellite radio or what ever you want to add to it.  Saves your glove box for your gloves!  He has a real good turnaround time also.

Custom Auto Sound (link below) has speaker set ups like that. They also make dual voice coil speakers that allow you to hook up stereo into a single speaker. I’ve used both set ups and they work and sound great. Dan

Speaking of front speakers...someone came up with a link to an adapter plate which lets you mount 2 modern smaller round speakers in the original oblong hole.

Can anyone provide that link again? I'm thinking of doing some upgrades to the sound system in my 65 Coronet and I don't want to hack anything.

Thanks
