If the lines are not near anything and it is when the weather is warm
it sounds like vapor lock as you suspect.

The big problem is the new fuel,  If you want to be done with the
problem go with an electric fuel pump.  If you go electric mount it as
close to the fuel tank as possible and as low as possible.  I strongly
suggest that you get an oil pressure safety switch that will kill the
fuel pump without oil pressure.  There is a pipe plug where you can
install the switch without interferring with the exiting oil pressure
sender.  There will be a drawing with the safety switch that will give
wiring options.  Typically it allows for the fuel pump to run while
the key switch is in the start position bypassing the oil safety
switch.  An added benefit is that you can add a switch to manually run
the fuel pump  to fill  the carb before starting.  This really helps
after the car has been parked for any length of time.

However as said it could the the cam follower rod as noted in another
email.
