Re: 413 Block ID

cast as in, "My arms in a cast, and my butts in a sling"  No...wait.  Ummm.  "I cast your evilness away from this place!"  Noooooooo....Umm  "I cast my line in to the river, but the fish were not biting"
No, that's still not right.... "I cast my vote for Zingey the wonder dog for president!"  No, that doesn't have anything to do with motors...."I cast my eyes upon her untold riches...it was a Plymouth!"  Oh hell...where is google search....

OH  CAST.....  The act of pouring molten material into a mold.
b. The amount of molten material poured into a mold at a single operation.
c. Something formed by this means: The sculpture was a bronze cast.

Engine block are cast (for example)

Here are some examples on how they are made.  I know, they are Chevy parts but they made the same way.

So a cast (Crankshaft, block etc) is poured in to a mold, like making a plaster casting of a statue.  A forged (crank, piston, etc) is something that is stamped and pressed into what ever shape is required...think how a blacksmith works metal.

This video shows how crankshafts are cast

This one shows a crankshaft being forged
