Re: Lug Nut Question on AP Torq Thrust-Style Wheels??

If you drill all the way through the wheel would it only leave a hole? I was talking about the existing bevel for the acorn nut. If the drill bit required was smaller than the outside diameter of the existing bevel for the acorn nut. That of course would depend on the size of the shank of the nut used. The size of the shank would determine the size of the drill bit needed. If only I could draw a picture. :)

There will be a bevel because of the drill shape

If after drilling there is some of the bevel left a washer could be machined to fit the bevel and you would have a really secure wheel.

If you have a drill heavy enough to handle a big bit you could go to a shoulder type nut

Thanks Paul,
Any way to mod the wheels instead of the drums?

I ran into the same problem when I put my Anson wheels on my car.  Studs too short.  Got longer studs at NAPA.  I couldn't find exactly the length I needed so bought longer ones and cut them off to length using a whizzer.  I used the acorn style nuts that came with the wheels. Made sure I left them long enough so 90% of the threads in the nut are engaged.  No problems in 3 years and several hundred miles.

Hi All,
Eager to mount a set of Torq Thrust wheels on my 300K Ram. But we're running into a safety issue.

The 1/2" diameter studs which are pressed into the hub and the drum aren't long enough. We've tried standard lugs (LH/RH) from Classic Industries but there just isn't enough bite to be safe. Research "suggests" that the set up should use acorn-style lugs and not sleeve-type.

As background, the wheels are early 1970s Torq Thrust-style units from Appliance Plating (AP) in 15x7.

Looking for information on how to safely mount these wheels on the 300. Safety is paramount and it's important that the wheels be firmly attached to the car (for obvious reasons!).

Many thanks for any and all advice/suggestions/leads!
