Re: master cylinder?

Four-wheel disc system with OEM 1956 brake pedal assembly, deleted the OEM 1956 rod and used the new adjustable brake rod to get the proper "free-play" on the pedal before engaging the MC piston, and Part #: MC11571P/M Mopar master cylinder for disc/disc or disc/drum.

The rod engages the MC piston with approx. 1/4" free-play when pedal is at rest. The pedal cannot move backwards more than this 1/4" as it is mechanically impossible since it rests against the pedal frame assembly as designed. If I had to replace the master cyl. in the future the only way to release the adj. rod from the MC is to remove the MC from the firewall or unthread the adjuster approx. one inch or more to "shorten" the rod enough so that is drops out the back of the MC.

Gary P's car has a custom brake set up, does it not? (4 wheel discs).

 Daniel,

In my case there it is impossible for the rod to slip out the back of the
master cylinder as there is not enough room to disengage the rod w/o
unbolting the pedal arm. Someone else's project may require the rubber
 grommet.

I guess we'll have to agree to disagree Gary. I would never drive a car that
doesn't have the brake rod locked into the back of the MC. (on manual
 brakes)
