Studebaker offered the stripper Challenger series for 1964, which replaced the 1963 Standard series.  It was not offered in Canada, so when the South Bend, Indiana, plant closed in December, 1963, and all production came from the Hamilton, Ontario, plant, the Challenger was dropped.

Studebaker built 1,154 Challenger V8 models - 274 2dr sedans, 594 4dr sedans, and 286 Wagonaire models.  One R1-powered and one R2-powered Challenger was built. 

The closing of the South Bend plant also ended production of the Avanti, Hawk and trucks.  Hardtops, convertibles and the Studebaker-built engines were dropped at the end of the 1964 model year.  For 1965 Studebaker offered Chevrolet-built 194-cid 6 and 283-cid V8 engines but kept its 3-speed Flightomatic transmission and never offered Chev's 2-speed Powerglide.  No more muscle cars after 1964.
