Re: "Better than Nothin" " and '62 MW Darts

My Darrell Davis book is the '62 Plymouth version, but someone with the '62 Dodge version or his combo VIN book might be able to shed a little more info about it.  I'm a little suspicious of the claim of the Mopar Action subject car being "1 of 5".  According to Mr. Davis' research there were more maximum performance cars built than the usual magazine articles said.  The old articles typically would say that 50 Dodges and 50 Plymouths were built.  Mr. Davis lists 298 Plymouths by VIN for '62 including 26 with the 13.5:1 compression engine.  Just seems like there are probably a few hundred '62 Dodges too and maybe more than 5 HC engines in the Dodges.  Of course the article may have just gone by Galen Govier's registry, which lists just those cars which the owners have had authenticated by him and who also paid the extra $5 to enter the registry. I guess one could request information from Govier on the cars in the registry, although I don't know if he would reveal any owner info.  Mr. Davis must have some owner info too; I recall that when I ordered the combo VIN book from him (which I can't find right now) he required me to send him a copy of the title to my max wedge car with my name listed as the owner.  I guess he was keeping the VIN info restricted at the time, but the newer versions of the individual year/make books have the VINs for the particular year and make in the back..

BTW, Mr. Davis has a '62 Dodge book, a '62 Plymouth book, and the combo VIN book, listed on eBay right now if anyone is interested and hasn't got one.  They are the newer editions which are larger, but he states in the VIN book description that he just found 10 of the first editions of that one in the smaller format, and the buyer can choose one of those until they are gone.  Not cheap though!  Just search for "max wedge book"

Hi all,

The newest "Mopar Action" magazine issue (dated 2-2014) has a good article about "Better than Nothin"" -- a 1 of 5 Factory Max Wedge 420 HP Dodge first sold at Jersey County Motors in Jerseyville, IL.

Does anyone know about the other 4 Factory Max Wedge 420 HP Dodges?  There was a nice red 1962 Dart with that motor several years ago at Houston Raceway Park but I can't recall if it was a clone or not.

Thanks,
Gary H.
