Re: Trans issue

Rich,
It sounds like a leverage problem. Can you change the travel at the carb? Maybe construct a bolt-on lever for the throttle cable? You can check the throttle pressure with a gauge per SM specs.

When I hooked up my shift linkage I had the pan off so I got the mechanism dead in the middle where it is supposed to be.  I have a picture too!!! (Not that it helps)  But I had to jumper it anyway as it didn't ground through the NS switch.  I also set up the kickdown by looking at it internally when the pan was off to see at what points the button inside is depressed and I marked it on the trans case. (Again, not that it helps)  Then I put the throttle at WOT and pulled the Lokar cable so that it completely pulled the kickdown all the way back and clamped it that way.  So when I hit WOT the arm is all the way back!  This however leaves it about halfway back under idle.  On the test drive I found it felt like the trans was dragging and it did not want to shift out of 1st.  It did a couple times and then it hit very hard.

I suspect the kickdown should not be depressed at idle?  But if will only be about halfway depressed at WOT if it isn't. I can't believe I should need more travel in the linkage as it isn't any different than stock travel.  As for the shift adjust, I think I just need to take a continuity tester under the car and re-adjust using it.
