Re: Dealership emblem

My 64 Dodge is being built as a mid 60's street strip nostalgia build. I have been searching for a dealer emblem such as yours  from any  car dealership which was in my area. I have found a NOS chrome plated emblem from the dealership that was here in my town. He retired as a mechanic for them. He doesn't want to sell, but maybe when he sees my Dodge when it is finished, I can persuade him. ......................MO

Subject: Dealership emblem

At the SunBust all Mopar show last August in Graham WA, a fellow ’62 owners asked if I had ever looked into the history of the pot metal dealership emblem on the tailgate of the Dart.  Never really occurred to me, so after a session of stainless polishing I decided to Google it.

The emblem reads:

Marksheffel

Colorado Springs

Right away found a Marsheffel area in Colorado Springs.  A little more digging and discovered this article.  It was one of the largest garages in the world at one time.  Quite the story on the man behind the name, Albert Marksheffel.
