edlbrock perf carb question

Anybody rebuilt an eddy performer  4 bbl recently  enough to remember about the accelerator pump circuit. Edelbrock site says there is a checkball AND a weight  in the passage before the squirters. This is what was in there when I pulled it apart but the squirters wouldn't squirt. Yep I cleared all the passages, pump stroke , etc. Nuthin!! My old Carter afb book shows only a pointed unit ( kind of like a needle) , but no ball.  Could edelbrock site be wrong/ anybody remember?
