RE: Adjustable Strut Rods

Thanks.  The wheels and tires help lower it over-all too.

15x6 with 205/60R15 (24.7" tall compared to stock 7.00x14 at 26.5" tall).

The adjustable strut rods must put more road vibration into the body - due to metal to metal contact. The Firm Feel design the only exception I have seen, since they incorporate the rubber or poly bushings.

They would be good to set the LCA’s at dead center, but not to control caster beyond that.  Actually if you consider the slight arc the strut rods travel in, the LCA’s position is constantly moving back and forward.

Hi Ric,

Sweet looking wagon!  Our adjustable strut rods will accept either rubber or urethane bushings.  I would go with urethane if using the adjustable struts.  They do require reusing the stock washers.  This suspension is designed to have all of the alignment adjustments taken care of with the upper control arm cam bolts.  Pulling on the lower control arm can cause bushing fatigue and failure, as well as k frame interference.

Using our tubular UCAs, we usually recommend 3 to 4 degrees positive caster,  ½ degree negative camber, and 1/16” to 1/8” toe in.  You won’t be able to get more than 1-1/2 or 2 degrees positive caster with the stock UCAs.

Ricky,

The stance looks good. If you push or pull the LCA to align the steering you will put the suspension in a bind and that never works well.

Anyone running adjustable strut rods?  Wondering if they help with alignment, realizing that the lower control arm is not designed with much play or any adjustment.  Looks like the Firm Feel is the only adjustable strut rod that accepts rubber or poly OE style bushings?

Just replaced everything on the Dart’s suspension, quite the learning experience.  But the best the alignment shop could get on caster was +6 degrees.  I have aftermarket OE style A-arms and thinking they are the prime suspect.  Were way wide at the shock tower and had to be squeezed/bent in a press to make them fit.  So going to rebuild the stock A-arms and try again.  Really happy with the ride quality now, with the larger .92 dia torsion bars, and new OE rear springs.  Pic below how she sits, measures 25.5” all the way around from the ground to the wheel well lip, at the center of the wheels.  This is about 1.5” higher in back, and ¾” lower in front, than it sat before.
