Re: Dual exhaust, side thread to what 4bbl

And the easier it is for the engine to operate efficiently opens the door for larger carbs and camshaft to take advantage of the improved flow...to a point. A larger carb may not be "needed" but the engine will perform better with the larger carb.

It takes less energy from the engine to push the exhaust out the dual
pipes, so that energy (HP) can be put towards driving the car. The
pinch point is the valves and how wide they are open. You can only
flow so much air through a hole of a given size unless you pressurize
(supercharge the engine) so technically you aren't flowing a higher
volume of air, you are just making it easier for the engine (an air
pump) to expel it. Think of breathing out through a coffee stir vs a
McD's drink straw...much less effort.

Looking for opinions here, several days ago Gary H. made a
statement,,,,,dual exhaust will not change (carb) air flow needed , this got
me thinking,,,,,,, please correct me , in my opinion dual exhaust will
increase the amount of air flow especially during WOT, the benefit of a dual
exhaust other than sound is it's ability to flow more exhaust fumes, that
being said during that split second when both exhaust and intake valves are
open the scavenging effect will increase the HP, by clearing the cylinder
better and drawing more air and fuel into the cylinder,,,,,,,,,,so my
question,,has it changed the needed size of CFM carb needed?
