Had really good luck when I did the top end on my 318 Poly last spring, using Hylomar on the entire metal intake gasket surfaces. This sealed the water outlet ports perfectly. First try used RTV around the water ports as most do, but it did not seal. I had bubbling at the manifold, and Stanley steamer action at the tailpipes. ; )

Threw away the foam front and rear pieces, and used Right Stuff.

You can get spray Hylomar on eBay, makes even and quick application much easier on larger gaskets like that.

Easier to find Permatex brand of Hylomar:

There is very little I would use RTV for, except caulk my house. ; )

I am getting ready to install the intake on the stroker build and it's been a few years since the last time I did this - would someone scan below - what I remember as a good way to go about it?

It is iron heads and an Edelbrock CH-28 (dual plane). Note that I had the heads cc'd by Muscle Motors and I believe Eric said they had to give the intake side a little haircut as well given they milled the block side quite a bit.

Here's what I think I do:

- cement a paper intake gasket to the intake side of the heads
- slip the intake on to see if it aligns. If not, glue on another gasket, etc
- pull the intake off
- throw a bead of RTV on the end rails
- pop on the valley pan and the end rail tabs
- here's where i am foggy - do I put RTV anywhere on the sides of the valley pan? I know some people actually trim the sides that lay over the intake ports but i dont think i ever did this
- last step is to install the bolts and torque it down

Oh, I think I smeared RTV on the bolt threads as well?

Am I close?

Thank you,

Jim
