RE: 65 Barracuda Console

Hi Don – I was able to locate a console with a good ashtray and good chrome so I bought it.  I need to paint the non-chrome areas but at least I have something to work with.  I still haven’t heard anything from the re-chroming shop so I think that may be a dead end.  Bob

I have a couple on console tops.  The only extra  ashtray i have is pitted/bubbled On the lid.  I have a NOS ashtray but am not giving that one up - going in my 65 Dart GT convertible.

Hi –

I have a tale of woe.  I sent the console for my 65 Barracuda to Nu-Chrome in Massachusetts in December to have it re-chromed.  They had done all the re-chroming for a previous owner of the car and it was quite nice.  To make a long story short, I have not yet gotten my console back and they have been mostly unresponsive to my calls and emails.  Doing some more checking this week I found that the company was sued last month by the State of Massachusetts for taking deposits from at least 100 folks for re-chroming work and neither doing the work or returning the parts.  I may or may not get it back and it may or may not be re-chromed so I am possibly out the console and the deposit.

My question to the group – does anyone have a console with ashtray that they would sell?  I would prefer one that did not need to be restored but a decent non-restored one is a possibility.  I would not purchase it right away since I would like to see if my situation can be resolved over the next several months but I would like to know what options I might have in getting the car finished and on the road this summer.  There are a couple on eBay but I would rather not go that route right now.
