Re: Welcome new member - 1962 Chrysler Newport

Thanks for the invite to all.   As I stated I have 3 cars, 3 kids and each will get one "down the road" when its time.  The problem is now is the time since late last year was determined that I have cancer and the clock is ticking on how long I got.  Been doing the chemo thing and that takes it toll for sure.  Regarding the car, going to throw money at it since I don't have the time now to fix over a long time.  So right now, if you guys know the car, not much chrome on it, so that;s a plus.  My day way back was able to obtain two new front fenders for it.  Again this car was known for getting mud up above the headlight buckets where it ate way the sheet metal on the fender.  With that said, been buying parts to get her ready to strip and repaint (by others now) but ran into a problem here and this is where I need your help.  On the front fenders just in front of the wheel wells there's a black ribbed strip and on that is the word "Chrysler" in script.  This Chrysler that I bought in Albany had the left front fender dented along with the bumper and park light. Dad got me the bumper too way back, and I bought the NOS park light at Carlisle about 20yrs ago.  The black name plates however isn't working out.  I purchased a pair about two weeks ago from a yard in the midwest.  I knew I would have to get them repainted but didn't expect them to have so many dents in the aluminum.  Can't find anyone that will get the dents out.   So now on a quest to find NOS would be great a pair of these black name plate backgrounds, or anyone that has knowledge of how I can get the one's I purchased to look like NOS.  That's the quest at the moment.  I did find Gary Goers and it was like Christmas so will be ordering all the rubber for this ragtop from him.  New tailights from Australia (can you believe it) and new mirrors from ebay.   But these black backgrounds for the Chrysler name I can't find anywhere, so help me out PLEASE!!!!! :)   Again thanks so much in advance, and yes will post some picks of my 70 Challenger!!!!

=========

Looking to restore a 1962 Chrysler Newport Convertible that's been in my garage now for the past 35yrs untouched. Have 2 Challengers, the first is my baby, a 1970 RT Convertible that I ordered when I was 20 and had the change to see it being built!!! The second is a 2008 SRT that my son talked me into getting when the car came back after 1974 (last year for the Challenger). The 62 (not this one but SAME in color and layout) was my first car till I got the 70 Dodge. This one wasn't as nice as mine, my dad forced me to sell my original!!. But need to get this one restored to be of the same quality that the Challengers are. So need lots of help here going forward.
