Carb mods working

I have been fighting a surging, lean, problem with both the Holley and the Carter 2bbls.. Since I have 2 Carter carbs on hand I have enough parts to tweak it without burning my bridges. I decided to drill the jets out which I did with a 1/16" bit. That is the smallest I own.  I tried that with still some surging.  Then I got into my Eddy carb kit and used a heavier metering rod spring.  Voila,  that seemed to do the job!  So far it's running much better.
