Re: "Space saver" spare fitment

I put on a mini spare from a Dodge minivan last week when looking for 14" whitewall tires and found that the studs were too short.  They only came through the lug nut about 2/3 of the way.

When I picked up the spare a few years ago, it was my intent to stand it up in the rear quarter panel of my wife's 64 Polara 500 convertible but it was too tall.  Too bad, I thought it was a brilliant plan.

btw, I also installed a spare tire from a 98 Chev Lumina on the 64 Dodge and it also had the same stud length issue but it fit otherwise.  It suddenly made the option of needing tires and rims for moving a car around in the yard a lot simpler since there are millions of the Luminas and that sort of car in the junk yards.

Regards,

K.

Update - Picked up one from a late model Lincoln Town Car last night locally at Gundie’s auto recycling.  One of the larger and better wrecking yards in the NW - Ordered over the phone from their Portland yard, and it was at their local Graham yard the next day for pick-up.  Half the cost of any I saw listed on eBay to boot.  The Goodyear tire still has the nubbies.

Nearly same dia as the tires I am running.  14 pounds lighter than the original spare, only weighs 25 #’s.  And will clear the front disc brakes, unlike the original wheel.  Not bad looking either, although once I get the cargo area sheet metal and cover back in there, nobody will see it.  (Had all the removable cargo area sheet metal sand blasted and been painting it).

Now to fasten it down, load jack and tools and she will be ready for whatever the universe throws at us.  ; )
