Re: gas boiling

I am in Yuma, Arizona.

I had my 63 SF with a 383 out a few days ago with the outside air temperature around 110 degrees.  I have a 180 degree high-flow thermostat and NO fan shroud.

In town I was running around 200 degrees and at highway speed slightly over 180 by a good Autometer temperature gauge.

I have not been able to find the part number but I am running a US Radiator 4-row copper radiator.  When I ordered it about 4 years ago I wanted a radiator that looked stock that would cool.  I know aluminium radiators are VERY good, I just wanted a stock look, all this one lacks is the stampings on the top of the radiator.

Just my experience.

When I am ready to order, just need to catch a 20% off sale at Classic, which happens quite often......

I am still running the stock fuel pump and lines from original. Has not been an issue before and I have been in Fl for 10 years. Eng was dieseling the other night when it was hot and it has not been doing that either. The whole 426 set up is original and has always run hot down here. Mabye time to change to  a better rad. and fan set up.

David, Not sure if '65 and '64 are exactly the same fuel system but I ran into a similar situation with my Satellite. Would fuel starve after operating for awhile and when I pulled the gas cap off it was difficult to turn and then a splash of fuel followed out of the filler neck, meaning vacuum in the fuel tank. Non vented caps may have worked fine in the 60's with the quality of fuel, 5/16 fuel line and low volume pumps but not up for the task with Ethanol blends, high volume Edelbrock pump and 3/8 lines I'm running. I ended up drilling a 3/16 hole in the cap and never had the problem again.

Is the gas cap vent not working properly?
Did you happen to open the gas cap and get a  "whoosh" of air escaping?  Might just need a  new cap/  Paul L.
