Re: 383 Oil Pan Gasket Question

I used the equivalent valve cover gasket, bought from Mancini, to solve an intractable leak on the 340 in my Cuda. The surface of the head seemed to have a slight flaw at one of the corners. I applied rtv using the finger rub method. That is got the rtv on my fingers and thumb and rubbed a thin film onto the gasket. Whether it was the gasket or the RTV it worked.  Stock valve covers which I checked and straightened as someone else mention also.

Thanks,

Thanks for all of the responses.  I have the MRE500807 new oil pan and oil pickup the should solve the pan problem.  The gasket I have is the Fel-Pro 1834, I know this is overkill but worth the money if it solves my problem.

Is there any reason to put any sealant on a gasket like this except dabs in areas such as the rear main carrier and timing cover area?

Hello,

I have had a persistent but small oil leak that appears to be coming from the pan gasket area.

I want to take my best shot at this, I have the pan off,  have a new pan and I am doing this with the engine in the car.  What do you guys recommend for a gasket and gasket sealer.

Thanks for any and all recommendations.
