Re: swapping from power to manual brakes

Yes, open up the top. In this photo I've outlined the portion of the original hole that must be covered using a thin aluminum.

Perfect.  Yup, I need to open up the top of the opening (if that makes sense), then make a gasket that covers the bottom of the opening.  Then some good ol' flat black...

Thanks again!

Forgot about this one. Yes the mounting brackets are different for power and manual master cylinders if I remember do to the position of the pushrod. Just a little bit of time and you can modify your bracket to work. I think I enlarged the pushrod hole and maybe realigned the mounting holes, repaint and that was it.

OK so I pulled the power brake booster this morning to do the coversion to manual brakes, and Doh! the bracket on the firewall is different for manual brakes.  I am guessing there is a one for manual brakes as it would seem a little shaky to just bolt the master cylinder to the firewall.

However, it looks like with a little fabrication I could cut up the power bracket and re-purpose it.  Before I do so, does anyone happen to have a bracket for manual brakes and / or are you wanting to convert from manual to power, so perhaps we could swap?  Or does anyone know where I might buy a new bracket for the manual brakes (doubtful) ?

Thank you,

Jim

Jim,

Two more things to look for. On my '63 Fury I removed the power drum/drum brakes replacing them with manual disc/drum. First is the brake pedal which may have 2 holes for the pushrod. The lower hole is for power brakes, the upper is for manual brakes. Second is if you move the pushrod to the upper hole you'll have to adjust the brake light switch for proper contact with the brake pedal. The reason for moving the pushrod up is that manual brakes will need a little more leg muscle. Moving the pushrod up allows more lever action force. I used the Master Power Brake PR4722K adjustable pushrod.

Team,

I am removing the power brake booster from my '64 Fury to enable going to manual brakes.  I believe the only to-do is to swap out the pushrod.  (I already converted to a dual reservoir system.)  I know Mancini and Mopar make adjustable pushrods.  Anyone have experience with these products? Or, even better, is anyone planning the opposite (going from manual to power) and interested in a wonderful deal on a never-been-used booster?  Hint, hint I want your manual pushrod...

Thank you,

Jim
