Re: Mopar Tapoered Axle Brake Coversion Link

I know there is  a debate about it, but I would not change over to the "green" bearings.  Axle end play is not difficult at all if you use a factory service manual...................MO

That is a great article and very informative, but does not address the question as to swapping the tapered axles for flanged axles with  new green bearings, new seals, etc, I need to change center sections and have to remove the axles anyway. This would be a good time to update everything.  The 63 tapered axle housing is as narrow as they get, so I would like to keep it.
I am guessing that if the axle housing gaskets are the same, and the bearings and seals are the same, the axles will interchange.
Anyone know if that is the case?

There has been a couple of discussions about tapered axles, replacement of complete differentials and such.  This may have been covered but here is a very good article describing how to convert from a tapered hub / brake drum unit to a standard brake drum.  Much easier to service and less expensive.

This is also a good time to change over to standard studs if you are still running the left handed studs on the left side.
