273 random poor performance

I have been experiencing random very poor performance with my 273. It will be running fine and then suddenly the engine will break up badly enough so can barely drive.  It acts as if there is a massive vacuum loss or it is starved for fuel or terribly flooded. It may run like that for a few minutes or much longer and then clear up in a flash. It may also do it at startup and last a couple of minutes or longer and then immediately run great.

I replaced the fuel filter and had the BBD carb rebuilt by a good carb shop with no effect.  The gas tank is a year old. It has new plug wires, new distributor, points, cap, rotor, condenser and the timing is dead on. Distributor is nice and tight. PCV valve appears to be loose and there is good vacuum to it.  There are no obvious vacuum leaks.  Battery, cables, voltage regulator, ballast resistor and alternator have been recently replaced. Compression meets specs.

Any suggestions? Bob from Maine
