Re: Stroker lit up, but I have issues

ARP bolts are what I took out of my neighbors intake also.   Glad I could help. I thought his cam was in wrong also and did pull it apart. That's how I found the bolts and steel gaskets on the aluminum intake. So he had two problems, not to mention the 484 purple cam on an 8 to 1 engine.  Vacuum went from 5 inches to 15.

Fellas, I think I may have found the smoking gun.

This morning I took some good advice from Stan and replaced the intake bolts.  Went to a 3/8-16 x 1 3/4 inch long set of bolts, which gave me about 3/8" more reach than the ARPs I had on there.  In the process of replacing the bolts, I found the one over #2 cylinder to be stripped.

After speaking with Bruce Roland, conventional wisdom is that it was probably a not getting a good seal from the short bolts and / or the stripped one.  Regardless, the way forward is to yank that intake and heli coil the head, then start over.  I'll keep everyone posted.

Can't say enough about the help from everyone.  I sincerely appreciate it.

Thank you,

Jim

Well. I finally got the stroker to light up, but I've got some issues.  I hope it's not serious, but it doesn't sound good.  I had to advance the timing to about 50 degrees to get it to start, and after break-in, I can't get it to idle below about 1,800 RPM.  And there is an obvious miss when you kick the throttle.  My 1st thought on the idle was a vacuum leak, but I ran some propane around the intake and nothing happened.  The timing and the miss have me concerned.  Could I have possibly screwed up the timing chain marks?  Any thoughts?

The good news is I have awesome oil pressue and no leaks.  It sounds freaking wicked.  Here's a video:

Thanks,
