The aluminum block is how the slant actually began life...which is why it's so durable in cast iron form.

Well I just asked my Chevy buddy and I guess he summed it all up.

 

The Slant Six was developed and positioned to the right in the car to compensate for the driver's weight. This mindful of the fact for those looking for an economy one occupant daily driver car not needing additional performance and power.
