Re: Shopping for parts in unlikely places...

Yep if you don't have enough cam it will be prone to run hot among other issues

Mrrodder, the dual four barrel set up is great as long as you re-jet and re-rod the carbs. All of this is only good if you are using the right heads and cam to allow the dual quads to work to there 100% effectiveness. If the motor is never to see the 6500rpm range, pick a intake with the smallest runners and port volume to make it more street friendly, mrmopartech 450 424 0445

I've been working on collecting parts for the 440 that's going in my '64 Polara and had a hard time deciding on an intake system. Considered one of the TBI systems, a single 4 bbl, Max Wedge crossram, and in line dual quads.  The fuel injection systems are just too expensive for my budget and the crossram, although what I really wanted, is also out of reach when I consider everything else the Polara needs so the search was on for something cheaper.  Bottom line is I have a set of matched AFB's sitting on the shelf and really want to use them so I started looking for an inline dual quad unit.  There are several out there, especially on E-bay but I found a brand new, in the box Edelbrock 5440 CH-28 on Amazon.com with free shipping for $50 less than Summit's price, and only $40 more than a Performer RPM.  I've been shopping Summit for years and always felt they had the best pricing on performance stuff but I guess I learned a good lesson.  When shopping for parts check all possible sources.  You never know what you'll find.
