Re: Super Stock Springs

Hi Jeff,

There's some good data here from the group already and not to undermine any of it but in your original question I see references to city and highway driving.  Just checking, as I might be pointing out the obvious, but the SS springs really are for competition use only.  As noted by a few others, there is an extra leaf in one side and the posture of your car will definitely have some giddy up to it when static.  It's been more elegantly noted by others, but the design intent was to compensate for the torque twist of the chassis so as to evenly plant the car on the track (convert all of the energy toward forward motion).  Whenever you see those pictures everyone seems to like with the left front tire up in the air, it is actually counterproductive to being as fast as possible, given energy is wasted lifting the car and not moving it down the track.

Anyway, having said all of this, if a car is not frequently being muled at a local track, one option people seem to overlook is buying two left rear springs (In Mike's example, I believe it is the even part numbers 002 or 456, but that should be validated.  This will give your car a nicer presence at gatherings and cruises.  The other thing I noticed is the SS spring setup punishes left front shocks, so if it is a cruiser you may want to avoid.

Just my two cents on a Monday over coffee.

Thank you,

Jim
