Re: Getting $#!T off Headers

In 2005 I installed my TTI headers with the ceramic coating. I was disappointed when finding how easy they scratched. In 2009 when I installed these same headers on my stroker engine I wanted to do something about the scratches, some burnt on oil and anti-freeze stains. Following a recommendation I went over the entire unit with 000 steel wool, then with a foam brush I applied Eastwood #10175Z Silver High Temp Coating. Over 5 years this coating is as clean as the day I applied it.

I called TTI about a year or so ago, and they at the time, recommended soaking with a citrus type de-greaser to remove the oil burn stains.  Not so sure that will work so well on burned on fabric.

Ha ha on me!  Thought you were talking about the jacket!  Actually tip from TTI is when guys get oil on the headers etc, clean it off with some carb cleaner, acetone etc and then get some hi temp aluminum spray paint…

Someone suggested brass wool or scotchbrite but I would call tti before I used it

Just be careful with the steel wool if you have the ceramic cote on them.  I wonder if the jacket material would not just chip off when cold?

I used a rag with a little carb cleaner on it to soak the area good first then take a small piece of fine steel wool and work the area lightly you may have to repeat the process.

During my dyno run last Sat, I managed to touch the cuff of my Carhardt jacket to the #1 pipe of my TTI coated headers, leaving a nasty black blob. What can I do to get it off?
