Re: 62 Dodge Polara 500 VRS 62 Newport

I hope I'm not repeating any info already submitted but the 62 Polara is a B Body with Bendix brakes.  I don't think Total Contact Brakes (TCB) were ever used on a B Body, you know Never say Never on a MoPar!  I personally have never observed anything other than a Bendix style drum brake set-up on a B Body.  I personally like TCB brakes, they are extra work doing them right as opposed to the simplicity of Bendix brakes.  The biggest issue today with TCB is no one realizes you need to arch each shoe to the drum it will be used on & you have to check each installed shoe for smooth consistent operation.  The only problem I have had with TCB is rust on the drums from sitting, they will squeal and pull for a block or so.

Are the brakes basically the same on these two cars?  I've not seen a 62 Polara front brakes so I'm not sure.  I'm helping Jack Perry with some info about converting to disk and I don't want to pass on the wrong info.

Thanks.

Eric
