Re: Speedometer Lube

the back of the speedo head has a fabric pad that needs some oil on it every now and then to keep it running smooth.  Dave O

Had a jumpy needle in a rig with a long speedo cable.  Used GM Super Lube - like that spray lube for door hinges - hood hinges - tail gate hinges seat hinges etc.  Not messy or too thick.  You can get it online if you don’t want to drive your Mopar up to a GM dealership parts counter.  ; )

Speaking of dash work.  How difficult is it to restore under the dash on one of these B Bodies?  Looking under there last night - sure are a lot of 50+ year old vacuum lines etc.  Was looking at what brass fittings I need to hook up the Poly manifold.  Looks like the vacuum fitting will screw right in - but man the black plastic or rubber vacuum line attached to it - and running thru the dash is hard as rocks.....

While I've got my instrument cluster out of the car I'd like to address a small issue I'm having with my speedo.  While driving about every 5 seconds the needle will bounce a little.  Usually about 5-10 mph.  It will first drop down a few miles an hour and then bounce back up to the correct speed.  I have had the speedo cable out and lubed a few years ago first with liquid graphite and then a second time with Vaseline.  Neither one ever made any difference.  I'm wondering if there is a problem with the speedo head and a way to lube it?  I have an extra instrument cluster that I'm going to disassemble later today to get an idea if it's possible.  Butwould appreciate any input from someone who may have done this before.
