Hi Bill,
The shifter cable can be released by pulling the cable out as far as possible (so the cable body is out of the case) and slipping a slender screwdriver along the right  side of the cable. There is a spring coil on the female linkage that must be pushed to towards the transmission center to release the cable male end. This action should result in separation.
The park cable can be a bitch! If you loosen the wedge bolt and tap it forward it will release the lock on the cable. If the cable will not move in the housing (corrosion) You will likely need to drop the small housing and remove it from the transmission as an assembly. Drain the transmission or be prepared for a mess!

I'm attaching a picture of the mechanism that holds in the park cable.  The spring you'll be pushing on is the little bit of wire sticking out that's sitting in the groove of the tube; you'll be coming at it with the screwdriver from the bottom of the picture.  That wire sits in a groove in the end of the cable to hold it in.  Push it up; it'll come put of the groove and you can pull the cable out.

I don't have a picture of the shifter cable mechanism, but it's very similar.  You'll be coming at it with the screwdriver from the end instead of the bottom, and you'll rotate the screwdriver counter-clockwise (I think) around the cable to push up the spring.
