Yes it is an optical thing.The Poly probably should have been called a "wide heads" engine. The engine looks wide when staring down at it. 

As I have noted here before, at car events I've had a couple guys look in the engine compartment and ask me about the 440 in there. Hum a 440 with scalloped valve covers.... :)
