RE: electronic distributor.

Actually before Mother Mopar came out with their ‘kits’ in the 80’s I found the Pertronix to be quite an ingenious upgrade to our stock points distributor…  Never had one fail either and I have had ‘kit’ ecu’s fail twice and NUMEROUS MSDs go down too…

I think the answer to the "how come...?" question is that we only hear about the Pertronix units that fail.  However for one person to have had two failures is worth considering.  Pertronix has been selling their units for many years and if they had a high number of failures I would think they would be out of business.

True dat, Roland - ya DO still have a 50 year old dizzy, but cleaned up, bushings checked or refurbished, and proper vacuum and centrifugal systems setup they work as well as they ever did.  Are modern electronic systems better??  I think we'll have to wait 50 years for that answer.  In the short term, I guess race track and street performance results show improvements over the old systems.  Those improvements MIGHT be swapping new modern systems for old worn out stock systems.

Meanwhile, have ya heard of electromagnetic pulse (EMP) possibilities??  I've heard some folks say they run electronic ignitions, but keep the old points and condensors handy just in case.

If the Pertronix was that good, how come we don’t see any on LA, wedge and Hemi engines?  And you still have a 50 year old distributor and advance curves-both vacuum and centrifugal… Not trying to condemn-I’m always open for education don’t ya know?

The quick, easy, and low cost way is to put a Pertronix conversion in your distributor. This is commonly done................................MO
