Re: 727 Tranny mount

I have your mount on LeRoar but I still broke the tail shaft housing when I had some wheel hop. Just Murphy's Law

Hi Ricky, Yes, we (Imperial Services) make that mount and supply Schumacher and other dealers. The urethane we use is an 80 durometer industrial urethane that approximates the damping properties of the original rubber mounts.  The cheap Chinese, Korean, and other mounts currently available are made from varying grades of EPDM rubber and generally only provide 2-3 years of service.  In addition, our mounts have the molded in spring feature (missing in cheaper poly mounts made by others) that help protect the transmission tailshaft under hard jounce/rebound conditions.  Gentle enough for Grandma's Imperial, but tough enough for the Asphalt Elephant.. ask John Grinwald :)

We learned early on that the transmission mount (all mounts, actually) are horribly incorrect... it's almost like they didn't even try, even back in the 80's!

Did a little digging around online last weekend, since the Anchor 2272 rubber tranny mount I have on my shelf is not correct.  Too narrow for the metal flange, and 3 bolts instead of 4.  Even though all the parts houses say it is correct for our cars.  Cheap though little as $6 (made in India).

Looks like Schumacher in Seattle has the correct made in the good ol’ USA – polyurethane – and is probably the supplier of others who do carry it.  (Classic Industries, Joe Suchy and Imperial Services also have the correct mount).  Ordered it from Classic Industries 20% off sale going on now along with some wants for another project to make the minimum, since Schumacher shows out of stock.  I am thinking polyurethane can’t be any harder than the ancient original mount in there now – and appears to be the only choice short of NOS which would be an equally ancient rubber part.
