RE: Water pump/fan shroud

I took your advice and changed the pump. Good news bad news. It would be hard to change on the road. The new one  fit fine. I had to cut the length of the fan bolts as the pump housing girth is bigger then the one I took off. The bad news is the pump wasn't the noise.my screw driver stethoscope method didn't show any noise from the top of motor. IE valves altinator. Looking this morning on the web, some people describe the same sound. Possible fuel pump rod?.  As the noise goes away at higher rpm and returns at idle. So tomorrow morning were heading to Carlisle. I also said once I hit 100K it's time for a rebuild. John Wask...

Subject: Water pump/fan shroud

My water pump on my 361 is starting to develop a slight knock. When cold. There's no play in the fan. I know my old ford truck the pump had a weap  hole to let you know the pump was going bad as it would leak from there.  Does this pump have that. And how long do I have before I need to change it? Going to Carlisle this weekend. I'm bringing everything if I need to change on the side of the road.

Was the fan shroud a option. When would a engine have one. Thanks  John Wask.....
