Subject: Re: Australian Assembled 1962 Phoenix Engine Size?

The only engine listed for the 1962 Phoenix was the 318 V8.   The engine was engineered and designed to be off centre on Chrysler Corp. cars.  They all look that way.

The rear engine mount on the slant six was used on the B engines (361 and 383) but around October Chrysler changed the rear engine mount on the 313 (CDN) and 318 (USA) V8 engines to the slant six mount.  So, I suppose it would depend upon when your CKD unit was put together.

There were some modifications done to the front engine compartment and the front frame section for the RHD steering components in Australia.  The parts books mention various items that need "fitting" - basically take a part for a LHD set up and modify it to fit a RHD set up.

What is the engine number on your car?  Should be stamped on the front of the block, left side, just below the head.  And I believe the VIN starts with SD2-.  Not sure if the next letter is M or H, followed by 1 or 2.  The last six digits form the sequential production number assigned to the car in Detroit.
