Re: edelbock performer

The quality of A/F flow is paramount.  IE- the Engine Masters Poly reputedly had 340cfm flow but HP & Torque results typical for that flow number were paltry.
In a stock engine/near stock, A/F velocity is most important.  The LA 318/340/360 & Poly runner cross section & shape were matched by Chrysler engineers to the cubic inch & requirements of the powerplant.
Therefore, the OEM manifold & Edelbrock “improved” stock manifold would best suit Neal’s application.
Large port air flow becomes more important when the demands of the engine warrant larger cross-section; ie. strokers, high RPM demands due to long duration camshaft profiles...but velocity is still necessary – it just comes in at a much higher RPM given the port design and attendant Race or Hot Rod modifications.

Yes; some of these aftermarket manifolds (Edelbrock Performer) are an attempt at enhancing the stock manifold capabilities to accommodate slightly larger camshafts, basic “Hot-Rod” mods... HP 4bbl. and multi-carb induction.

I believe that port match is important ,  but at what point does large port air flow become better than smaller port velocity?  Their might be a reason that some after market  aluminum intakes  have smaller ports  than others. .......................................MO

Neal,
The stock manifold is excellent for your use as well as the Edelbrock you
have.  No need to spend extra money chasing the LD340.

Just for general driving around, and the occasional "performance" on the
street, probably not.

Back to the original question. He has the stock 340 4 BBL cast iron manifold
already. Is it worth the money and effort to swap it out, unless doing some
serous drag racing?

Thanks,
Gary H.
